Interviewing Mom and Skater, Cassidy Andersen on Her Skateboarding Progression

I met Cassidy via social media and was blown away by her progression in skateboarding. I reached out to learn a bit more about her and to put together a skate edit with footage she gave me. Both the article and video are below. Enjoy!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What or who originally got you into skateboarding and what’s your “one year skate goal” I read about?

My name is Cassidy Andersen. I just turned 27. I have been married for 5 ½ years. We have a daughter named Ollie. She is Almost 2.

My cousin got me into skateboarding when I was 8 years old. I have skated on and off ever sense. I stopped skating in high school and started again when I met my husband Jared and found out he skates as well.

Although I have been skateboarding most of my life I never really learned more than a kickflip and a board slide. I always wanted to be really good at skating but never put in the time to get better.

When I watched women in SLS and other competitions I would feel jealous and regret not putting in more effort when I was younger.

Skateboarding has always given me confidence and made me feel happy, but I had the mind set that skateboarding is a missed opportunity. I felt like it was too late for me to chase that dream. I used excuses like i’m too old or, I can’t put in the time to get good because I have a toddler.

I finally broke through that mindset and said why not? I started my instagram to track my progress over the next year and see how much I can improve! There is no better feeling than setting a goal and accomplishing it. With skateboarding there is a countless amount of tricks to learn so I have the opportunity to feel that thrill every day. It is amazing to track my progress and actually see and feel a difference everyday when I skate. Skateboarding brings me so much joy.

I also saw that you promote World's Best Podcast and Board of Provo. Can you tell us a little bit about how you're associated with both of those brands?

Worlds Best Podcast is a podcast that I started with my husband and our best friend Jake. It is a comedy podcast with a touch of positive psychology. I got my degree in Social Work and this is my way of promoting positivity and hopefully helping others choose to be happy.

When I started my skate progress instagram I made a goal to be sponsored by one of my local shops by the end of the year. I was very excited and grateful when it happened a lot sooner. Board of Provo put me on their team 4 months after starting my instagram. They are a great shop with awesome owners! My childhood self would be so pumped for me haha.

Who inspires you in skateboarding or life in general?

I am inspired by too many skaters to list them all but ill name a few. When I was young I was obsessed with Rocket Power. There weren’t many female skaters to look up to at that time so it was cool to see Reggie shred in that cartoon. When I was young I also looked up to Bam Margera, tony hawk and Ryan Sheckler. Now, I really enjoy watching Mariah Duran, Candy Jacobs, Sky Brown, Nora Vasconcellos, and Andy Anderson. Skateboarding is so different for everyone I could name 1000 other skaters that inspire me.

I am also very inspired by my husband Jared and my dad. My husband is so kind to everyone and has the best attitude about life. My dad has always supported me no matter what and is a very genuine person.

What are your future goals for skateboarding and building your personal brand?

I set new goals everyday with skateboarding. I have a lot of tricks on my bucket list. I have a goal to start a second youtube channel this year about skating. It is a goal of mine to collaborate with Braille skateboarding. I would love to be in one of their videos where they learn a new trick. My biggest goal is weird to write down because I rarely say it out loud, but it is to become a pro skater.
