7 Videogames That Scared The CRAP OUT OF ME
Video games have taken over the entertainment industry in the past few decades and with this, comes a diversity in genres. One of my all time favorite genres? Horror. This opinion spans into movies, books, comics, and of course, video games. When you're immersed into a horror story and you are playing as the character, everything becomes more real. I remember being terrified while playing certain games more than others, which is why today, I've decided to bring to you my all-time favorite horror video games that scared the crap out of me. Let's get creepy..
Clock Tower
Clock Tower is one of the first horror games I remember playing where I was absolutely terrified. Without watching any videos to recount the terrors, I recall vividly the character Scissorman. I often think about what a movie like this would be like, but it seems that Hollywood is preoccupied with remaking old garbage, but I digress.
When thinking of classic horror games, the image of Scissorman coming down the stairs always enters my mind. I've even had dreams about this character terrorizing me in my own home. Human Entertainment created this gem and I hope they're happy with how they molded my childhood.
Resident Evil (Multiple Games)
Resident Evil has probably made it onto every similar list and for a good reason. R.E., until recently, has given us so many heart pounding scenes that I couldn't pick just one. From Nemesis in the courtyard in Resident Evil 3 to the chainsaw guy in Resident Evil 4, Capcom knew how to make some scary ass games. Here’s just a few of the scenes that scarred me in my adolescence.
Slender
How could I possibly leave Slender off of the list? This game, based off of a legend made famous on Creepy Pasta, was SUPER creepy when it first came out. I remember downloading this game on my old laptop and playing it alone in my room in the dark and well...WHAT A TERRIBLE, but great idea. You can download and play the original HERE if you’d like to scare yourself. Below is a little taste of what it’s like.
Silent Hill (Multiple Games)
Silent Hill has some of the creepiest scenes in video game history. The first to come to mind is the bathroom scene, but there are so SO many. Luckily, AJL Gaming has created an awesome video for you to experience them all over again. Enjoy!
F.E.A.R. (Multiple Games)
I've been hoping for awhile that a new F.E.A.R. game would hit the market. I beat the first 3 and loved all of them. Every time Alma showed up, I think I peed a little bit. If you haven't played them, don't watch the video below and go buy it for yourself. If you have played them, enjoy reliving the FEAR.
Layers of Fear
Although this is another game with “Fear” in the title, this game is very different, but terrifying all the same. Art-wise, story-wise, acting-wise - this game has it all. Go play on STEAM now! Here’s a preview:
Condemned
Condemned was one of those games I picked up a long time ago and thought it would just be a fun throwaway play, but it turned out to be one of the funnest horror games ever. To be fair, I love stories that fantasize in a world gone mad. Condemned plays perfectly on your fears with some excellent jump scares and genuinely creepy scenes.
While playing, I always felt anxiety, which lets me know I'm playing a game that actually has some substance. Not only were the scenes pretty to look at, but the overall storyline was awesome. I never did get to play the sequel to this game...I think I'll go pick that up now!
UPDATE: Sequel was awesome too! Why is this not a movie yet?
